As you say, you need to have great content on your own blog but when you are writing posts you are, as you pointed out with Chris Garrett, building up your reputation. I'm going to try and make time to write some good quality articles and offer them to other blogs to see the response I get. One of the greatest things about guest posting is that you are exposing yourself and your blog to a whole new audience. You are reaching people you might not have reached via search engine traffic.
