I'm a writer at 451 Press and I live in Ontario, Canada. I actually earn a bit more because of the U.S/Canadian exchange rate. The bloggers are paid in U.S. funds.

Last month I averaged around $7.00 Canadian per article. I love what I'm writing about so I'm happy with the wages. I'm seriously not going to worry about not making minimum wage. I could go work at the local Walmart and make slightly more, and for that I'd have to give up the comfort of working from home which gives me freedom (not to mention a ton of income tax write offs). There's no comparison.

For blogs that are on a difficult subject matter or that receive little traffic I can see that it would be hard to earn a decent amount. But nobody is forcing writers to work at 451, they can always shop around for a higher paying blogging gig.

I just want to say as well, that I understand that blogging isn't like other jobs, but it is up to you to impose a value for your time. If you are fine with these rates, or those of other networks, that is great. I just think people's time is worth more than that.

Yeah, that's why I always recommend people start their own blogs instead of writing for someone else.

Sure it will take you longer to get to the point where you're making that big $5.50 an hour (snort), but once you've been blogging a while, learned how to market your stuff a bit, and start getting some recognition, you can do soooo much better than that.

Ouch, that really, REALLY SUCKS.

Even I pay my bloggers more than that, and we're a small independant website.

At 5.50 an hour, I can't imagine how someone could do this full time.
