Hey David... I'm a big fan of blogs (as you can tell from my sites). The hardest part is keeping up with content. But find those 'partners' that love to write and begin building that blog network. In the end, all of that unique content is well worth it. Keep up the good work.

Good post David. It is good to see someone elses view on this as it' something I have been thinking a lot about lately.

I've ran dozens of forums over the years so I know the large amount of visitor driven content that can come from them. However, to really get a forums you need either (a) a large advertising budget or (b) a site with an established userbase and traffic already. This is where blogs can come in handy. Once you get some traffic to a blog you are in a good position to advertise other sites you own - be it a service type site or a forum or whatever.

Tech sites and jokes are definately saturated genres but the problem is, there are very few unsaturated genres left. I'm not saying it's not possible to come up with something original, it's just that little bit more difficult.

With the tech and joke blog I'm starting my short term plan is to build content and to establish some traffic. That won't make me money however it should open doors for future projects down the line.

However, I do agree with you. It's just too easy to register a domain, upload wordpress and get started on a blog...perhaps too easy!
