I agree with what you are saying. But I also think it would be very appropriate for you to offer a book or other “content product” that you yourself have written. There are a fair number of books out addressing things you do that are not as well written or informative as your posts.

So please don’t sell yourself short. There is nothing wrong with making an honest dollar off your own experience, knowledge, and insights. And writing useful and original content is one way to do so.

It’s a fine line between monetizing a blog and exploiting it. Although some blogs boast of big bucks, I wonder how many actually survive and prosper? If you take a fast hit on monetized monies and run with it, the total sounds good. But amortize that over a few years and is it really? Without analyzing monetized income across the life of a blog or website, the boasts are meaningless

This is one of those “I thought it was just me” posts. I’ve been blogging since February, but I’ve resisted adding advertising until later this month, because I want to roll it out in a principled fashion that respects my readers, or at least my ideal reader profile. I’m sure I’ll make mistakes along the way, but it’s good to know that another blogger is thinking along the same lines. Thanks for the reassurance.
