We ask all blog publishers to help bring awareness to the world today on the dire situation with climate change and the need for action!

Why Climate Change?

Climate change affects us all and it threatens more than the environment. It threatens to cause famine, flooding, war, and millions of refugees.

Given the urgency of the issue of climate change and the upcoming international climate negotiations in Copenhagen this December, we think the blogosphere has the unique opportunity to mobilize millions of people around expressing support for finding a sustainable solution to the climate crisis.

Suggested Posts

We encourage you to write about climate change in the context of how it relates to the topic of your blog. To help you start thinking, here are a few ideas about how you might connect climate change to things that you might already write about:

* A Technology or Business blog might write about emerging clean tech and how innovative companies might be able to help address the problem of climate change.

* A Health or Lifestyle blog might write about how climate change will affect our children’s health and daily living.

* A Nonprofit or Political blog might write about how climate change is deeply connected to many other issues – such as poverty and conflict.

* A Design blog might write about new trends in eco-friendly or sustainable design.

* A Travel blog might write about the places you want to see now before climate change makes them difficult to access or, well, under the sea.

Please join the 7,037 blogs in 135 countries and 11,211,921 readers in uniting over this urgent issue!

Thanks for reading eXtra for Every Publisher – xfep.com.

I have never tried to push my brand in order to get free things, and I probably never will, but I have always secretly hoped that all my hard work would be noticed by people, and in turn they would want to help me out, even in some small way. Most of the time, I am unfortunately disappointed as people say they are going to do something, but instead disappear off the face of the earth.

I have always found that online people over promise and under deliver, but recently, I have had two examples of people doing quite the opposite.

WordPress Wear

Back, earlier in the year, I attended Moosecamp and Northern Voice in beautiful British Columbia, and I met up with Matt Mullenweg and got to see Lloyd Budd once again. I mentioned how I would love to get a WordPress shirt at some point, but the cost of shipping made the whole thing prohibitively expensive. I had found it sort of ironic that I talked about WordPress all the time on various blogs, and podcasts, and didn’t have anything to show for it. I was honoured that Lloyd had me help out with his session about WordPress at Moosecamp, and he sweetened the deal by offering me a WordPress shirt.

He said that it might take a while, but I would get it, and since then, I had totally forgot about it. I never really expected to get a WordPress shirt, and amusingly enough, a week after my transition out of being a full time blogger, a package arrives and inside is a WordPress hooded sweatshirt.

Up to that point, I had been a little bummed out due to some personal life complications, but it felt like a sign that things were turning around for me in a very positive way. I also found it ironic that the only blog where I now had access to post about WordPress related content was here on Xfep, where I haven’t given WordPress as much focus as I have elsewhere.

Problogger Book

When I first heard about the Problogger book, it was already completed and Darren and Chris were already promoting it. I immediately signed up for their newsletter to get the sample chapter and was really impressed.

I contacted Chris, and jokingly pointed out that he should be handing out copies to all his buddies, and interestingly enough, he said that he would send me a copy. After hearing how other people were grabbing copies of the book, I almost went out and purchased a copy, thinking that Chris had forgotten. Promoting a book is much more important than spending the time to make sure I got a copy, and so I wasn’t frustrated or annoyed with him at all.

Today, a truck pulled up and handed me a small package. Sabine, my wife, looked at me and asked what it could be. I didn’t have any clue, and so before even signing for the package, I opened it up to reveal a small soft cover book including in large bold letters, Problogger.

I have been reading and re-reading the sample chapter and gaining a little more insight each time, and now I can’t say that I am not distracted by having the book in hand to pour through and review. I can’t explain how excited I am, and I still plan on buying a copy or two to give out to some blogging friends of mine, as well as maybe a few to give away here. Chris and Darren deserve all the support we can give them with regards to the success of the book.

Live Up to Your Word

Chris and Lloyd didn’t have to go above and beyond to fulfill the small mentions they made with regards to helping me out, and yet they did, and in doing so they made me feel very special, and appreciated, something that far too many people forget to do. I hope that they feel, in some small way, responsible for my happiness, and in turn feel happy themselves. They are great people, and deserve special recognition.

And now, to close out this post, here is me, with a goofy grin, excited about my WordPress shirt and my Problogger book.

It has been a long time since I last did a commenter appreciation post, but with the recent comments I have been getting from two people in particular, I had to take some time out of my day to feature them. Bloggers that I have known for some time have, for some unknown reason, taken time out of their life to add their thoughts and opinions to this blog, and I wanted to make sure that they know I appreciate it.

So a big thanks from me goes out to Kevin and Jeff.

Kevin Muldoon

Linking to his personal blog, System0 from the comments he leaves here, Kevin is better known in my mind as the owner of BloggingTips, a popular multi-author blog that covers all aspects of blogging. I have watched as he changed the staff and the design of his popular blog, and yet he still found time to come over here and say “hello” more than once. A great guy to get to know and I am glad he keeps stopping by.

His personal blog covers the interactions he has with technology, video games and his day to day life. His opinions are usually in line with my own, which is always a plus in my book.

Jeff Chandler

Jeff, or Jeffro, runs the WordPress Weekly podcast, and writes for the very popular Weblog Tools Collection. He also works on his own blog Jeffro2pt0, where he talks about what is going on in the web 2.0 world, as well as covering blogging, and from time to time, WordPress.

I have been on his WordPress Weekly show more than once, and I really appreciated the opportunity recently to break the news about my new career. Jeff has quickly become one of the voices online that I really enjoy tracking, and I see nothing but success for this guy. I have a feeling that he will be one of those people I will one day be telling people “I knew him before he became famous online”.

Wrap-up

If you aren’t watching what both of these guys are doing online, you are missing very important things. They both have different levels of experience, but they keep their ears to the ground when it comes to all things blogging.

While compiling the new top 50 list for my recent post, I noticed some of the blogs I enjoy aren’t in that top 50, but I believe they should be, and so I am going to give them some recognition here today.

There are specifically nine blogs I would like to highlight that are all listed in the 45n5.com Top 100 list, but aren’t in the top 50, but do have some great posts, ideas, or writers. If you haven’t checked out all these blogs before, have a look today.

#55 – MEMWG
#139 – The Blog Entrepreneur

If you enjoy these blogs, make sure you subscribe. While I don’t always enjoy their designs, or the advertisements they display, I have found the above list to include some great bloggers who produce some great content. If we, the community, support them, they will hopefully be in the top 50 by the next time I write about it.

Hopefully, they won’t push me out from my spot in the list though.

Networking is one of the things I tell everyone to focus on in this ever changing landscape of web publishing, and it is nice to know that people have noticed that I enjoy networking with others. When you work from home by yourself, any contact helps stop me from going crazy.

People listed on Pure Blogging include, Courtney Tuttle, Tay, Jon Phillips, David Culpepper, Adnan, Pearl, and Karen Zara.

A great list of people, some who I have talked to before, and others who I plan on networking with soon.

I can’t believe another month has already shot by, but thankfully, I have two more great people, from great sites that have been helping make eXtra for Every Publisher a great blog.

Check out previous Appreciation posts to see all the people that have been mentioned.

The two people I will be highlighting today own sites very similar in audience to my own. The first is Steven Snell of Vandelay Website Design and the second is Matthew Henrickson from Blog About Your Blog.

Steven Snell

I am a huge fan of the Vandelay Website Design Blog, and have been reading it for a while. Steven asked me at one point to help check over his blog, to make sure there were no other security holes, and I did my best to make sure it was safe. He even put up a thanks to me on his blog, something that was really great to see.

Since then we’ve been on great terms, and I have enjoyed every comment he has left on this blog. I hope he will stick around as his personality, and skill are just amazing.

Matthew Henrickson

I have never been a huge fan of Blog About Your Blog’s design, but the content is another story. Matthew has been one of the great participants in the comments here, and I couldn’t let that go unnoticed. If you are looking for another blog in a similar niche to this one, (though why would you need one, right?) check out Blog About Your Blog. In November, the blog made over $300, and while that isn’t an increase over October, it is still nearly three times what this blog made, an accomplishment to be sure.

The blog has been around for over a year now, so if you can’t find some great stuff in its archives, you weren’t looking.

Wrap-up

Two more great people, with great sites. I hope you will all continue to contribute here, and I hope to see some new faces join the fight to have their comments noticed.

Thanks again to previous commenters. Check back next month for another installment of the Commenter Appreciation posts.

It is the end of the month and time for me to thank two of the people that helped make eXtra for Every Publisher the great place it is.

If you want to know more about my Commenter Appreciation Project, please check out my previous post explaining the idea.

Last month, I mentioned two great commenters, W. Thomas Leroux of leroux.ca and Mark of 45n5.com and over the course of October they have continued to be a huge driving force in the interactivity of this site, and so I want to thank them again, but I am going to try hard to feature different people every month.

This month, the two commenters I want to focus on are John Leschinski of Leschinski Design, and Ahmed Bilal of Soccerlens. Both of these guys are multi-talented, having blogged on a variety of sites and providing some great advice to me and my readers on a number of posts.

John Leschinski

Another Canadian, and one of the few people I have met in real life, John runs his own design company, and I have seen him blogging on Blogging Tips.

He attended one of the local Geek Meetups in London, Ontario when I lived there, and has been popping up more and more in the blogging scene.

Ahmed Bilal

Where isn’t Ahmed? He runs some amazing sites, and writes on others. He is one of the big names over on Performancing, and has become a good online friend of mine. I highly respect his work, and am overjoyed that he has taken the time to leave a few comments here on my blog.

Soccerlens is an amazing football related website, and by football, I mean soccer. With over 1000 RSS readers currently, it is definitely one of THE best resources for the subject.

Wrap-up

Great blogs, great bloggers, and I appreciate their comments. A big thanks from me, and again, I recommend you all check out every appreciated commenter on this blog, as all the best people comment on eXtra for Every Publisher.

I meant to do this post sooner, but I have been so busy, that it got to be on the back burner. I want to start by apologizing to everyone for the delay.

If you want to know more about my Commenter Appreciation Project, please check out my previous post explaining the idea.

The first two commenters I want to mention are W. Thomas Leroux of leroux.ca and Mark of 45n5.com.

WTL

WTL, as he is known in the comments on this site, is a Canadian, so that alone gives him some bonus points in my book, and is one of the only people to comment on this site that I have actually met in real life. He is a web developer in Ottawa, Ontario and was one of the founding members of the Blogger Meetup when I lived there. He is a great guy, and even better for having found the time to come to this blog and comment on three separate occasions in less than a week.

You can find some great technology posts, social observations, and personal life updates at his blog leroux.ca. I find the design a little odd and a bit old fashioned looking, but I can’t really comment, Xfep doesn’t have the most visually interesting design. His blog has been going for over four years now. Definitely, worth checking out.

45n5

45n5, or if you prefer his real name is Mark, has been commenting around here lately, and has been adding to the conversation, which to me, is the real power of a commenter. And unlike most other people, he is also generous with his linking, and has become a real leader in promoting other bloggers in this niche. Check out the Top 100 list, as well as MoneyLinks.

He also takes time out of his busy day to contribute to the comments here at Xfep, from simple bits of feedback “Dude, the podcast rocks! Hope to hear more. Subscribed” to a full on conversation, as we had surrounding Episode 1 of my podcast.

His blog, 45n5, has information about making money online, but Mark has added many personal touches to his content as well as being a thought leader. Recently, he removed all advertising, replacing it with advertisements that brought readers to other pages or areas of his own site. The design is more advanced than the one here at Xfep, but at the same time it stays on the simple side, focusing more on the content than anything else.

A great blog to read and subscribe to.

Wrap-up

Great blogs, great bloggers, and I appreciate their comments. A big thanks from me, and again, I recommend you all check out every appreciated comment on this blog, as all the best people comment on eXtra for Every Publisher.
