So you want to join the select few who are starting to make money from the viral videos they upload in YouTube? Yet you don’t know how to start? Here are key things you should remember to get you started with making money online via YouTube’s Partner Program.

Produce interesting videos

Interesting is a broad concept and subjective in nature. What could be interesting to one user may be boring to another. Know the pulse of YouTube users. Find out which original video content is the most viewed. Then decide which one you would and can emulate and add your own brand/personality.

Target your audience

To help you produce interesting videos that will most likely help you earn money through viral campaigns, it’s important that you know to whom your videos are for. Examine your audience, know their viewing habits then based your videos on them.

Start uploading videos to YouTube

Once you know what type of videos your going to produce, it won’t take long before you start rolling. Once you’ve finished your first video, upload it immediately to YouTube. Then work on another project again.

Know when to join YouTube Partner Program

Once you uploaded a couple of interesting video, start working on how to promote them. Use the power of social media. Post links of your videos on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Sell your videos on your blog (if you have one) Once you know that you’re videos are on its way to become viral, join YouTube’s Partner Program.

Join YouTube’s Partner Program

The programs only entails three requirements from you before YouTube lets you in. If you are creating original videos suitable for online streaming, own or have expressed permission to use and monetize all audio and video content that you upload and you regularly upload videos that are viewed by thousands of YouTube viewers.

;Review your Work

Once you’re in YouTube Partner Program go back to your videos and study them once more. Monitor the videos pageview and traffic. Identify which video got more hits. So that by the next time you create your next videos, you already know which pitfalls to avoid.

Now is the time to Relax and wait for the money to come in. It may not be that much as first, but once you’ve hit the jackpot, you will just smile the moment you receive your first earnings.

He includes the following:

Multi-Topic Blogs

Blogs Converging with Other Types of Sites

Portal-Like Design

Indirect Monetization

So, I was having some serious issues with Ustream.tv recently, and it didn’t look like anyone could help me out. It took a while for the Ustream.tv live support to realize I am not an idiot and the problem wasn’t between the keyboard and chair. We narrowed it down slowly to their client system. Why would neither computer be able to record audio, despite using different browsers, different flash versions, different microphones, on computers with different operating systems?

The answer was one of those moments where you slap yourself in the head. There is an audio quality slider. I assumed it didn’t do anything but improve or decrease the audio quality, but when I moved the slider to its maximum, suddenly, my audio was getting through. As I slowly moved it down, it continued to work until I got to around 13kHz, where it just stopped.

I was never able to find out why the audio slider was responsible for the problem, and frankly, I don’t care. I am just happy to be able to record audio with my videos on Ustream.tv once again.

So next time I have a live session, hopefully more of you will show up, and I will have working audio next time. I really love the Ustream.tv platform, and having tried some of their competitors, I am ready to say that Ustream.tv is the best and despite the issue I had, it was worth figuring out so that I didn’t have to deal with the quality issues and user interface issues that other services have.

Sidenote Suggestion

So, if you work at Ustream.tv and are reading this, I have a suggestion for the company. Jonathan Snook and I realized that while video is great, being a talking head isn’t always what I want to be in front of a large audience. I know there is an easy way to just broadcast audio, but it would be nice if it offered MP3 downloads of all shows. That way people could subscribe to the audio portion of my video streams, if they don’t want to watch me talk.

If you could make it so people could download MP3′s from the videos, be they recording video and audio or just audio, I would really appreciate it, as your sound quality is so much better than most of the other services out there today, and you would quickly become one of the biggest one to many audio broadcasting services out there.

I had really hoped to have a live video questions and answers session this evening, but Ustream.tv made that impossible. After over an hour of trying to get things to work, I have given up. I tried on both computers, in multiple browsers, using multiple microphones and video cameras. The video worked great, but no audio was getting through.

Without any support, I feel like Ustream.tv ruined what could have otherwise been the saving grace of my horrible day.

What’s worse is that I know it isn’t browser or Flash specific as I was able to transmit video and audio just fine on Justin.tv. Maybe that will be where I will hold my video sessions from now on.

For those that didn’t get a chance to chat with me. I am planning on trying again soon on Justin.tv or if you know of a better live video service, please let me know. Yahoo! Live is not a good suggestion at this point, though I have high hopes for the service.

Oh well, I guess I will just have to watch the season finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I am looking at having a live session on Ustream where people can ask me their blogging related questions. I will be running the session from 8pm EST tomorrow night until I get tired of it. I will be using Ustream.tv’s built in recording function to record the session.

I am hoping at doing more of these as I have always enjoyed them in the past. If you have a specific time or day that would work better for you, please let me know.

Also, if you would like a one on one video session, I am available for consultation.

Join me on my Ustream.tv channel tomorrow night.

Update: Didn’t work out as Ustream wouldn’t transmit audio from either of my computers. More on that soon.

When WordPress 2.4 comes out on January 24th, the first thing pretty much everyone will notice is a brand new WordPress Admin panel design. The user interface side of things doesn’t appear to have changed much, but there is a huge graphical change, and some minor new features. For taking a small moves approach to developing WordPress, this one is sure to create all kinds of buzz in the coming weeks.

I took it upon myself to download the latest WordPress nightly and install it to see how the new design was coming along, and after getting it set up, I went and recorded a quick screencast for Tubetorial.

Hope you all enjoy it, and let me know what you think. So far, the response to the video has been positive, but the response to the new administration panel design has been mixed. It should be interesting to see what everyone thinks on the 24th when it’s finally released.

Note: The design has NOT yet been fully implemented in the nightlies, and is only 10-20% complete. I want to make this clear, as it seems many haven’t realized this and have begun criticizing it.

So recently Mark from 45n5.com introduced me to Ustream, a great site where you can stream video, and have an interactive chat. I tried to promote the fact that I was going to spend two hours each evening in Ustream on my Xfep2 channel, where people could come and ask me for advice. Having been a full time blogger for the last two years, I figured some people would be clamoring at the chance to pick my brain, but on Thursday and Friday, basically no one showed up.

Sure I could have promoted it more, but I did mention it on the Blog Herald, a popular site read by bloggers, as well as mentioning it on here, and lastly Mark also mentioned it on his site.

I found it a little sad that no one saw the value in coming freely to learn from me, but as much as this disheartened me a bit, I have added it to my paid consulting page. If you are looking to learn from me, and would like to do so in a video setting, where the conversation will be recorded for your further usage, please let me know. Rates are already posted on my consulting page.

If you would like to learn more about me, and why it would be advantageous to you to contact me for consulting, check out my about page, for more details on my history with blogging.

So Mark from 45n5.com introduced me to Ustream. I have seen it being used by Chris Pirillo for some time now, but never thought it was something I’d be interested in doing. I went to try it out though, and once Darren Rowse posted about the whole thing and came on as well… I had over half a dozen people interacting with me. I tried to share as much of my expertise and experience as possible, and I recorded the whole thing.

I hope to add Ustream to my daily repertoire here on Xfep, as I continue to try to help others in their goals of making money online. I haven’t picked a standard time or day to do stuff yet, but if you check out my Ustream channel, and I am broadcasting, feel free to ask questions using the chat.

Update: I will try to be on from 6-8 EST the rest of this week, if you have any questions.

If you want to see the two videos of me giving out advice, they are below the fold.
