Great post and one that really causes you to think and try and figure out some things. I've become very marred down in things on a variety of fronts lately, both professionally and personally. Just trying to hang in and keep going till it levels out. With regards to Ben's comment, I wouldn't count on one-day just having more time, when you've got free time on your hands you probably won't be in any condition to actually enjoy it. One thing I've learned and try to keep at the forefront of my mind when it comes to decisions: Saying "Yes" to something is also saying "No" to at least one something else and vice-versa.

There's an old saying. Like most old sayings, it is grounded in experience: it's not the destination, but the getting there that's most rewarding. We knew it when we were kids (the process of hoping for and thinking of, Christmas Day was often more exciting than the socks or the toy which soon collected dust.) We see it as adults, in terms of jobs. The process of working toward the job was better than the day-to-day grind of *having the job.

So, its the same with online work. The key, I think, is to reserve an activity that is solely for pleasure - it doesn't earn you a dime, it doesn't teach you a lesson that can be converted to work, it is totally frivolous. Then, when you are feeling burnt out and seeking a way out, go have some fun, recharge your batteries and gain some "fresh eyes" about your work.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm at that stage with my own website. I tend to now only post on my gaming site, with sporadic posts on my personal site. My other sites take a back seat, and I concentrate on creating new products (and gaming).

One day I will have more time, but if you have any tips for improving the situation I'm all ears :)

Yep. It's the same thing at the grocery store where I work. Come in at 9PM, do the same things, usually some stuff doesn't get done but it's a routine job that doesn't have very many variations and thus, it feels like nothing is accomplished each day because in 24 hours, you're back to starting from square one again.

I wonder how happy people are who have jobs where they build things from the ground up and then watch or hear of something being accomplished because of their work. That is a sense of accomplishment that I'd like to feel someday. Work on a project, feel like I'm getting somewhere, accomplishing goals, never starting off from square one, never going in circles, continuing to make headway until the end is reached. That sounds fulfilling just writing about it.

The site isn't even live and I'm building links for it already :)
