I'm a compulsive saver, which comes from growing up in Quebec in the 80s when if the wind blew, the power went out, taking whatever I had coded on my C64 with it.

I typically use Textmate or Writeroom to write my posts, depending on my mindset, but I always autosave.

I think this is the second time your machine has borked like this, so I think something may be up. Might be worth checking things out.

I've learned to constantly save. It has saved me many times but i've lost many things over the years because of a computer lockup or some other issue. My current laptop has unexpectedly went to a black screen a few times in the year or so I've had. It doesn't lockup so most of the time I can still press Ctrl + S and save before I reboot but it's not fun.

I can imagine that situation and it can be bad for a writer who are having tonnes of ideas in his mind. Using Wordpress online editor gave me a bad experience as well. I have once been typing for minutes without noticing that my wireless connection to the Internet is terminated by some disruptions. What happened next is the same as yours, my laptop went hang and everything is gone in an instance.

I am now using Windows Live Writer which auto-saves and my posts can be written offline as well!
