Blog World Expo: My Adventure Begins

For those of you that are regular readers, you might have seen me mention that I will be not only attending Blog World Expo in Las Vegas this year, but I will also be speaking on two panels. I am fairly nervous about speaking in front of so many of my peers, but I am also very excited about this trip.

There are so many things I still have to do to get ready to go, but I wanted to explain a bit of the silence as of late, and why things might be a little quite here over the next few days.

Tomorrow morning I leave home and head into London with my wife. She has to go to school, and I have to start going through the airport security fun. I am bringing a minimal amount of stuff in order to make sure I can get through as efficiently as possible, and I won’t be checking any baggage if possible.

I will be bringing a very small suit case and my laptop bag and trying to manage both as I fly from London, Ontario to Toronto, Ontario, which if you know the area well you’ll notice is the wrong direction, but Toronto is a hub here and where Air Canada does their international flights. I haven’t had very many positive experiences in flying with Air Canada, and so hopefully this time it goes better.

After a few hours in Toronto, I then board a plane to Las Vegas. Hopefully, during this part of the trip, I will be able to get some writing done, and relax as right now I am a bit wound up thinking about the people I am going to get to meet and where I am going.

I really wish my wife was coming with me, but we just couldn’t afford it at this time. It seems like we are forever going on different trips to different places, though mine are always work related.

One thing I checked out was which planes I would be flying on, and which seats I might want to avoid. I found that on Seat Guru, a site that I had heard about a long time ago thanks to either TechTV or Revision3 at some point or another.

I haven’t been in the Unite States for almost ten years now, and the last time I was in Nevada, we only didn’t stop in Vegas so this should be quite the experience for me.

I want to thank Jim Kukral and the Blow World Expo organizers for having me speak and Ryan Caldwell, my boss, for giving me the time off from College Crunch to attend.

If you see me at the event, please come and say “hi” as I’d really love to meet as many people as possible.

Blog World Expo Videos

So I took quite a few little videos at Blog World Expo, mostly on the first day, the E&E event which was a special start to the conference and had some great sessions, keynotes, and whatnot.

I am still processing all of the video I have taken, and will upload it all to Vimeo as I have the time.

Here are some videos for those that missed the event.

Speaking in Two Panels at Blog World Expo

Blog World Expo is quickly approaching, and as you might have noticed, I will be speaking at two different panels now.

The first one, as I mentioned before is the How to be More than a Blog: New Media Integration with Deb Ng and Tris Hussey. I am very excited about talking about adding more than just text to your blog, though for my readers here, I am sure you are amused by my seat on this panel as there aren’t many new media additions to this site (especially if you excluded my podcasts).

The point to remember though is that I haven’t always just wrote on this blog, and so I think I will have plenty to say regarding adding images, video, audio and widgets to your blogs to attract attention.

The second panel I am on isn’t the one I thought I was going to be one. I thought I was going to be on a panel with Jim Kukral, John Chow, Brian Clark and Zac Johnson, but when I saw that Darren Rowse was added to the line up, I know that the Making Money Online with a Blog panel was full, and rightly so.

Thankfully, Jim is an amazing guy and got me placed on another amazing panel entitled, How to Sell Direct Advertising on Your Blog. I will be sitting next Steve Hall, Wendy Piersall, Dave Taylor, and Lynn Truong. The line-up has me saying, “I’m not worthy!”

I almost would rather be part of the audience as these amazing people say what they need to on the subject.

Blog World Expo is going to be amazing. The only issues that I am going to have is that I am nervous about speaking, and there are too many great sessions running concurrently.

If you are attending, please let me know, as I would love to meet as many people as possible.

Speaking at Blog World Expo

Well, it has finally been mostly confirmed that I will be speaking at a minimum of one session at Blog World Expo thanks in a big way to Deb Ng of Blog Talk Radio and Freelance Writing Jobs.

I will be speaking on a panel entitled, How to be More than a Blog: New Media Integration.

In today’s busy blogosphere, it’s not enough to have a blog. Using images, video, radio, podcasts and more can take a blog to a completely different level. In this session you’ll learn why bells and whistles are important and how easy it is to implement new media into your blog.

I am still hoping to speak on more panels if I am allowed, as I have an opinion on everything, even if it isn’t what most people would consider a correct opinion.

I will be in Las Vegas from 11pm on the 18th of September until 11pm on the 22nd of September. I would love to meet up with other attendees or readers in the area. I will be staying at the Riviera Hotel and Casino, but you’ll never find me in the casino part, so no worries on losing my shirt or anything.

This should be an amazing conference, and I am both very humbled and nervous to be speaking. Please let me know if you are going, what you think of Blog World Expo, even if you aren’t coming and if you can meet up with me while I am in town.

Also, if you are running a panel or conference, and would like me to speak, please feel free to contact me, as I would love to share what I have learned over the last three years.
