In this modern age, it has become standard to not only have a webpage for your business but also have accounts on social media. By joining a social media platform you will be able to give your business a more personal voice which people can relate to.
Unfortunately, for many businesses they aren’t sure how to market effectively on these platforms. They may be great at traditional marketing but social media is an entirely different ball game. Since the idea is to be sincere and personable rather than come off as a cold faceless business, it can be challenging for some businesses to find their voice.
When it comes to marketing your business on social media, here are some of the things that you definitely don’t want to do.
Be Spammy
Posting links to your products and services in inappropriate places is a big no-no. While it’s ok to market yourself and you very well should be marketing yourself, you should also be doing it in places which are inviting.
Placing an ad for your services in the comments of a thread which isn’t relevant to the conversation is downright spam. People will be irritated with your online manners and a negative light will be cast on your business.
However, if you find a thread where people are talking about looking to buy new pans and you happen to sell cookware, then this may be an opportunity to offer your services in a sincere way.
Following and Unfollowing
Many business accounts follow other users in order to get them to follow their accounts. After a few days, they unfollow once they’ve gained new followers. This comes across as sneaky and frustrating to many users.
Essentially “tricking” people into following you only to unfollow them isn’t seen in a very positive way in the social media world.
Therefore, rather than trying to gain followers in this way, use hashtags to gain followers. That way you’ll have people on your account who found you through a genuine interest in your niche. As a result, they’ll be more interactive with your content which is the best kind of followers to have.
Posting Irrelevant Content
Some businesses make the error of blending business with inappropriate content. Your business page should be dedicated to your business.
Therefore, if you’re a law office and you post a photo of what you had for lunch that day, it may baffle your followers and leave them wondering how this has anything to do with what they’re looking for.
Not Engaging With Comments
It’s important to engage with your followers’ comments. If you have a large account with a lot of comments coming in then you should hire someone to handle your social media accounts.
Replying and interacting with your followers is a crucial part of interacting with potential future and current clients.
