An Entirely Different Top 100 Make Money Online List

Over on the 45n5.com Top 100 list, there has been some huge movement thanks to Google updating their PageRank system, and starting today, I will have a very different list with which to create the Xfep Podcast.

I have taken a look at the sites in the list before Mark updated it, and after, and here are the new Top 50 Make Money Online blogs. I suggest checking out the biggest movers and shakers, as they are the ones that were being held back by their lack of a PageRank or due to a low PageRank.

Looking For Weekly Columnists at Xfep

With my new responsibilities at Splashpress Media, I am going to be a very busy person, and so I am looking to hire two weekly columnists for this site. You have to have strong experience in blogging, advertising, search engine optimization, social networking, site promotion, WordPress ninja’ing, content management, and/or other relevant topics. You must be willing to publish one or two articles a week of five hundred words or more.

I am looking for people with passion and personality, and so if you fit the bill, please contact me with your rates and any relevant blog URL’s.

Update: Since so many people have asked me about the rates, I figured I would post them here. Honestly, it is dependent on experience and ability but I have been saying this to most people.

I am looking for two people willing to each write two posts a week of five hundred words a post or more for $10 a post. On top of that, I am willing to pay a $20 traffic bonus if the site’s traffic beats the previous month’s by a minimum of 1,000 unique visitors, something that the blog is on course to do already. Even better, there is also a $25 bonus if an article reaches the front page of reddit, digg, sphinn or delicious up to a maximum of $100 a month. This means that any selected writer has an upper starting limit of $200 for eight posts a month.

Commenter Appreciation: October 2007

It is the end of the month and time for me to thank two of the people that helped make eXtra for Every Publisher the great place it is.

If you want to know more about my Commenter Appreciation Project, please check out my previous post explaining the idea.

Last month, I mentioned two great commenters, W. Thomas Leroux of leroux.ca and Mark of 45n5.com and over the course of October they have continued to be a huge driving force in the interactivity of this site, and so I want to thank them again, but I am going to try hard to feature different people every month.

This month, the two commenters I want to focus on are John Leschinski of Leschinski Design, and Ahmed Bilal of Soccerlens. Both of these guys are multi-talented, having blogged on a variety of sites and providing some great advice to me and my readers on a number of posts.

John Leschinski

Leschinski Design

Another Canadian, and one of the few people I have met in real life, John runs his own design company, and I have seen him blogging on Blogging Tips.

He attended one of the local Geek Meetups in London, Ontario when I lived there, and has been popping up more and more in the blogging scene.

Ahmed Bilal

Soccerlens

Where isn’t Ahmed? He runs some amazing sites, and writes on others. He is one of the big names over on Performancing, and has become a good online friend of mine. I highly respect his work, and am overjoyed that he has taken the time to leave a few comments here on my blog.

Soccerlens is an amazing football related website, and by football, I mean soccer. With over 1000 RSS readers currently, it is definitely one of THE best resources for the subject.

Wrap-up

Great blogs, great bloggers, and I appreciate their comments. A big thanks from me, and again, I recommend you all check out every appreciated commenter on this blog, as all the best people comment on eXtra for Every Publisher.

Story: I Once Sold a 12 Character Domain for $500

So many people have been wondering what I have done that makes me worth following online, and that’s really a hard question to answer. I fell into my position with Jacob and Bloggy Network thanks to being in the right place at the right time, and my new job with Splashpress Media is all about the connections and impressions I have made over the last two years.

One thing I will talk about today though is how I sold a twelve character domain that had no keywords for $500 US dollars.

Before I was a teenager, I enjoyed super hero movies, and one of my favourites was Phoenix from Marvel’s X-Men. She was very powerful, and also a very conflicted character. I empathized with her and also thought the alias was very interesting. The myth of the Phoenix was also very powerful and interesting to me.

I took on the name Phoenix as my own personal symbol online, and used it in pretty much everything I did. Even my first websites created on Geocities used my Phoenix code name in one way or another. As I grew up, I finally decided to get my own domain name, and I registered Phoenixrealm.com.

I worked really hard on that blog, and as I continued to grow up, I felt less and less like the “Phoenix” name suited the online persona I wanted to portray. So one day, I decided to sell the domain. Not the content, or anything else. The domain didn’t have any keywords really, nor any other major marketing points. It was a personal blog about my life, and my work online. From time to time I would post a smart article about something I was passionate about, but I was taking that content with me. I figured that I might only get a bit more than the registration fee on the domain, but I tried to talk about all the great things I had done with the site. The traffic I had brought in, the back links, and even my Technorati rank. Anything I could do to make the domain seem valuable.

Thankfully Gary, a great guy, saw the site and what it could be used for and decided to purchase it for $500. He turned the site into a great SEO blog which is still around today. I moved on to DavidCubed.com, and continued to write about my life and everything in it there.

While it might be pretty common place to sell a domain for three figures, I doubt too many domains without keywords usually do so well.

The lesson you can all learn here is that value really depends on the buyer. If you can find a buyer and can convince them of an items value, you will make more money than those that just continue to lower their prices to please buyers.

Network Evolution: AltSciFi.com Soon

So Mark from 45n5.com has released another video about GroupPlatform, something I am a part of with AltSciFi which is coming soon.

In his video he mentions two things, getting closer to having it ready for everyone, and the new payment/network model. It seems I will be getting everything from AltSciFi for free until it makes $200 in one month. At that point, Mark will be looking at a payment of $100 a month. This $100 payment doesn’t change for Mark, no matter how much the site makes.

While this sounds great, my first though is that he will have to create many such sites to really benefit himself. With the old model, the better the sites were doing, the better off he was. He had invested interest in their success. Under his new system, he only has invested interest in having each site get past that $200 a month mark. While still good for many people, this does worry me slightly.

So far though, Mark has proven himself to be a great guy in every sense of the word, and has always been forthcoming with ideas, knowledge, and advice, and so I continue to be very excited about GroupPlatform, and my role in it.

I look forward to launching AltSciFi soon, and hope you will all be there to check it out when we do.
